The DAX
The Deutscher Aktien IndeX, also known as Deutscher Aktien-Index (German stock index) is a blue chip
share market index constituted by 30 of the major German companies trading on the Frankfurt Stock
Exchange. DAX quotations are created from an electronic
operator trading system called Xetra which
according to Deutsche stock exchange.
It measures the performance of the prime standard stock of the 30 largest companies in Germany on the
base of their order book volume and capitalization of the market. The German stock index, DAX was created
on December 1987 and started its value based on 1.000. The Xetra system analyzes the index every second
from the beginning of 2006. An indicator of performance of the German benchmark Deutscher Aktien IndeX is
the L-DAX index when the electronic trading system Xetra shuts down. The L-DAX is the so called
"floor" trade at the Frankfurt stock exchange. It works every day between 09:00 and 17:30 Hours
Central European Time. The L-DAX acronym stands for Late DAX, and it means that it is calculated
from 17:30 to 20:00.

Companies are Removed and Added Regularly
Siemens - diversified industrials, ThyssenKrupp, diversified industrials, Volkswagen Group,
automobile manufacturers. Among the list of the current companies part of the DAX one
of the last review sees the replacement of the Hannover Rück with the Infineon Technologies.
Regarding the last modifications the last reviews were done on the last March of this year: the
company Salzgitter was replaced by Heidelberg Cement, its membership will become effective from 21st of June.
Other companies had been excluded or had been replaced, such as Nixdorf, which merged into Siemens,
Degussa merged into Degussa AG with Hüls AG and renamed into Degussa-Hüls AG. Dresdner Bank was taken
over by Allianz, Lanxess was spun off from Bayer. Hypo Real Estate because of an inadequate free-float
market capitalization and an offer from an American investment company it had a decline on the stock
market and replaced by Salzgitter.
To be included in the DAX companies must meet the following criteria:
- If the company U.S. listing is changed to any other market than the Nasdaq National Market
- Company securities must have been listed on the exchange for at least the 3 previous years.
- There must be a minimum of 15% capital free floating on the open market.
- There must be a recognized amount of turnover.
- Selection criteria primarily based on market capitalization.
- Company business must have significant presence within the German economy.
